It is being sold at a discount because the battery door does not completely close and the light meter has not been tested - even though, this camera can be used in full manual mode with no batteries, and will work perfectly in this way.

The lens is in perfect condition. Glass is clean, suffering no fungus, rubbing marks, cleaning marks, scratches, or damage. The aperture blades actuate smoothly and show no signs of damage or helicoid oil seepage. The shutter works perfectly at all speeds, and is accurate. The reflex mirror actuates as it should. The viewfinder is clean and clear and the focusing mechanism works perfectly.

Cosmetically it is very nice.

The Zeiss Ikon Contaflex was introduced in 1953 and is one of the first successful SLR cameras to feature a leaf shutter. This allows the camera to be incredibly small, and provides flash synchronization at any shutter speed.

Of particular note is the incredible mechanical feel of this camera. It operates like clockwork and provides an uncommonly blissful tactile experience when shooting. The exposure compensation control is also a decidedly excellent implementation. A joy to shoot.

This Contaflex Super BC is the second-to-last version of this famous camera model. Featuring a CdS through-the-lens exposure meter and automatic exposure mode in addition to its full manual controls, it's the most advanced of the range. Set the aperture control to "A" and the camera will automatically select the appropriate aperture based on your selected shutter speed and the available light as seen through the lens.

The lens is an ultra compact Zeiss Tessar 50mm F/2.8 lens capable of making very sharp images. The standard focal length of 50mm makes it a perfect camera for travel, street photography, general use, snapshots, and landscape shooting.

The viewfinder features a split-image focusing circle in the center of the frame, making it very easy to focus.
